Distance higher education research still fills with campus metaphors: ‘the university on the hill’, the library steps, the invigilated hall. This PhD forbids that substitution. Your field is the actually existing global remote university: seminar grids, hub transcripts that must not become marking, students who move country mid-module, career switchers on night shifts. You will produce a 1,500–2,000 word proposal at admission, sit a timezone-aware panel interview, and work with supervisors who do not treat APAC candidates as afterthoughts. Methods must fit digital traces and institutional data with ethics that do not scrape vulnerable students. Spanish, Portuguese, and Hindi may appear as objects of study; they do not automatically become the language of examination. The award is a research PhD. It is not QTS, not a clinical licence, not a UN post. It will not be marketed with another university’s quadrangle. Doctoral work is slow on purpose: ethics of student traces, interviewing across meridians, institutional data that includes identity-checked assessment records, and a viva that does not always punish APAC. Hubs may be researched; hubs may not co-author the thesis. English is the default language of examination unless a bilingual pathway is approved. Publication ethics forbid UN emblems as decoration.
