GlobalMind University Opens the LLM Corporate Governance & Compliance to Practitioners

GlobalMind University has opened the next intake of the LLM Corporate Governance & Compliance. It is a practitioner master's in law for people who already work in or near governance — company secretaries, compliance officers, in-house counsel, board advisers, regulators — and want a rigorous legal grounding for the decisions they already make.

The curriculum covers directors' duties and corporate personality, board effectiveness and accountability, comparative corporate governance systems, legal research methods for practitioners, financial-services regulation and conduct risk, ESG governance and disclosure law, anti-bribery and financial-crime investigations, and data protection and technology governance. It ends with a dissertation on a governance problem the student chooses.

"This is not a conversion course to become a solicitor," the programme leader said. "It is for the person who sits in the room when a board makes a decision and needs to know, precisely, what the law requires and what the regulator will expect."

James Whitfield, a civil servant working on public-body governance, is using the dissertation to examine how conflict-of-interest rules are enforced in practice across different regulators.

Assessment is by legal problem questions, a research memo, a comparative essay and the dissertation. Students may use professional research tools, declared, but must be able to defend their own legal reasoning.

The LLM is delivered online with zero tuition. Examination and administrative charges are published in advance and exam sponsorship is available. Live sessions run across time zones and are recorded.

Applicants usually hold a first degree and work in a governance, legal or compliance role. A law degree is not required; the legal-research methods module brings non-lawyers up to standard.

Staff across admissions, registry, teaching and student services are told to design every process as if the default student is studying after a full day's work: recorded sessions, published rubrics, named advisers, and a library desk that does not close at the end of one country's office hours.
